Digital Children’s Book Fair 2015 Report

Date: 2015/8/29(Sat), 8/30(Sun)
Venue: Workshop Collection 11 (Tokyo, Shibuya)

‘Digital Children’s Book Fair’ was held at Workshop Collection 11 on August 29th (Sat) and 30th (Sun).
This year, the event was held on the last weekend of the summer holiday at the two buildings that were expecting to be pulled down. Workshop Collection 11 and Digital Children’s Fair Booth ended with great success!

Venue

Digital Children’s Book Fair was held on the second floor, sharing the space with ‘Eponte’s Forest’ workshop booth. Prior to the workshop, children decorated the walls and floor using the ‘Eponte’ stamp. ‘Eponte’ is an educational stamp which CANVAS supported Shachihata Inc. with its planning and development of the toy. The stamped walls created a very cute environment!

Book Fair

Approximately 350 apps from 45 countries were exhibited at the book fair!
The Digital Children’s Book Fair 2015 was organized in three sections; ‘Continent Booth’ which was set near the wall, ‘Age Booth’ which was set on the lower round table, and the sponsor ‘Sagomini’ booth.‘Continent Booth’ was divided in three sections; Asia & Oceania, North America & South America, and Europe & Africa. Children were able to explore various apps that were produced around the world. At the ‘Age booth’, apps were divided in groups; apps for infants, kindergarten children, and elementary school children. At the ‘SAGOmini’ booth, ‘SAGOmini’ apps were exhibited exclusively. Wide age range of children, from infants to elementary school students seemed to have enjoyed the book fair.

Digital Ehon Award

Digital Ehon Award winning apps were also exhibited at the book fair. This year, ‘Danbokko Kitchen’ won the first prize. This smart toy kitchen allows children to experience fun cooking by inlaying smartphones into the cardboard kitchen set of frying pan, saucepan and cutting board. The app delivers a magical feel, allowing children to feel as though they are cooking in real life, with all the authentic sounds and the abstract cardboard toy. This app, which was produced outside of the stereotype that digital toys do not blend well with analogue, received high marks for strengthening parent and child communication.

The Digital Children’s Book Fair is growing every year, with more and more exciting apps been exhibited from all over the world. With 350 apps from 45 different countries, the book fair is sure becoming a global phenomenon. We will continue delivering the world’s most exciting digital children’s books. Thank you everyone for all your support!
